Three games match ranked teams

North Pocono and Wallenpaupack traded the fourth and fifth spots among Big Schools this week.

Now, they will get to see how they stack up against each other on the same field.

North Pocono, which took over fourth place in this week’s Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings, travels to face fifth-ranked Wallenpaupack, the team it replaced, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 opener.

The rankings, compiled weekly by our partner site, NEPAFootball.com, are for teams in the Lackawanna Football Conference and Wyoming Valley Conference.

North Pocono is one of four teams making positive moves in the rankings this week.

Old Forge and Lakeland climbed in the Small School rankings while Hazleton Area joined the Big School rankings.

The North Pocono-Wallenpaupack game is one of three sending ranked teams against each other.

Hazleton Area gets to test its new ranking by hosting Dallas while Western Wayne, one of the teams that dropped this week, will play at home against Scranton Prep.

Scranton Prep again holds one of the No. 1 spots, along with Valley View.

Valley View leads the Big School rankings, which are for Class 6A, 5A and 4A teams, following its 48-0 rout of Scranton. It plays at winless West Scranton Friday.

Williamsport and Dallas held on to the next two spots.

After beating Central Mountain, 21-14, in overtime, Williamsport is headed to Berwick Friday night.

Dallas had the week off because of a COVID-19 situation at Lake-Lehman. The Mountaineers return to action at Hazleton Area, which took the sixth spot with its second straight win, 21-14 over Pittston Area.

North Pocono replaced Wallenpaupack in fourth after it routed Tunkhannock, 47-7, while the Buckhorns were falling at Lakeland, 14-7.

Like Dallas, two of the top three Small Schools had last week off because of COVID protocols involving their scheduled opponents.

Scranton Prep comes back to put its unbeaten record on the line at Western Wayne, which dropped from third to fifth after suffering its first loss, 21-0, at Crestwood.

Wyoming Area held on to second after making a strong impression in defeat, falling to four-time defending state champion Southern Columbia, 37-30, on a last-minute touchdown. The Warriors are at Crestwood.

Old Forge moved from fourth to third during its week off. The Blue Devils are scheduled to host winless Montrose.

Lakeland also moved up one spot to fourth following its victory over Wallenpaupack. The Chiefs are at Carbondale Friday.

Lackawanna Trail held sixth by beating Susquehanna, 42-7. The Lions host Holy Redeemer Friday night.
