The quarterfinal round of the District 2 girls tennis tournament gets started Monday with both defending champions hosting matches.

The 5-sport, 34-event schedule also features key games in two Wyoming Valley Conference soccer divisions and the four top pursuers to leader Wyoming Seminary going at it in a pair of WVC Division 1 field hockey games.

Once-beaten and second-seeded Scranton Prep gets the action started at home at 11 a.m. against Valley View in the District 2 Class 2A girls tennis tournament.

Unbeaten, top-seed Abington Heights hosts Pittston Area at 4.

The other six quarterfinals are all scheduled for Tuesday.

Wyoming Area (9-0 in the division, 13-1 overall) has clinched at least a tie for first place in WVC Division 2 boys soccer and goes for the title while playing at one of the two teams tied for second, Lake-Lehman (6-3, 7-7). The game is set for 6 p.m.

First-place Wilkes-Barre Area (8-2, 11-4) is at third-place Wyoming Valley West (7-2-1, 9-3-2) in WVC Division 1 girls soccer where the top three teams are packed within a half-game of each other. Dallas, the other contender, is 7-2 in the division.

The second- through fifth-place Division 1 field hockey teams are in action with Lake-Lehman (7-1, 10-2) at Crestwood (6-2, 11-2) and Wyoming Area (5-1, 11-1) at Wyoming Valley West (4-3, 6-5).

Girls volleyball matches are also part of the schedule.
