EDITOR’S NOTE: Since this story was originally posted, the Hazleton Area at Tunkhannock and Pittston Area at Lake-Lehman swimming meets have been postponed.
Wednesday is a relatively light day on the District 2 sports schedule and, unlike some recent days, it is not because of COVID.
Although there are some postponements today as well, it was just designed as a day with fewer events. It was planned as a full wrestling day and a day off from basketball.
The top event of the day in terms of records takes place in the afternoon when Hazleton Area travels to Tunkhannock for a Wyoming Valley Conference boys and girls swimming meet.
Both Hazleton Area teams are 1-0. Both Tunkhannock teams are 2-0.
Other scheduled swim meets are: Dallas at Wyoming Valley West, Holy Redeemer at Nanticoke and Pittston Area at Lake-Lehman in the Wyoming Valley Conference; and Wallenpaupack at Abington Heights in the Lackawanna League.
The juggling of the basketball schedules did put three games on tonight’s schedule, including Tunkhannock (4-1 overall) at Wilkes-Barre Area (3-4) in a WVC Division I boys opener.
In girls basketball, Wyoming Seminary is at Wyoming Area in what will be Wyoming Area’s WVC Division 2 opener and Elk Lake is at Scranton in a non-league game.
The wrestling schedule has just one match with two winning teams against each other and another with two teams that have winning league records.
Wyoming Area (8-4) is at Pittston Area (6-2) in a non-league match between rivals that are part of the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Wrestling Rankings of District 2 teams. Wyoming Area is fifth and Pittston Area is sixth.
Montrose (1-0 in division, 3-3 overall) is at Western Wayne (2-0, 5-0) in a Lackawanna Division 2 match.
The rest of the wrestling schedule is: West Scranton at Valley View and Scranton at Wallenpaupack in Lackawanna Division 1; Lackawanna Trail at Blue Ridge and Elk Lake at Honesdale in Lackawanna Division 2; and Tunkhannock at Dallas in a non-league match.
