Tuesday’s juggling to try to deal with the weather at the time and what was in the forecast led to additions and subtractions to the Wednesday schedule.
When it was over, the resulting Wednesday slate included District 2 championships in girls tennis doubles, the continuation of the girls volleyball tournament and the start of the field hockey tournament. There is also a light schedule of boys and girls soccer as the regular season slowly winds to its conclusion.
Girls tennis is down to the four semifinalists in doubles in each class. Abington Heights and West Scranton each have two teams in Class 3A while Wyoming Seminary has two teams and is joined by teams from Riverside and Scranton Prep in Class 2A.
The tennis action starts at noon at the Birchwood Tennis and Fitness Center in Clarks Summit.
Three girls volleyball semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
Wilkes-Barre Area is at unbeaten Delaware Valley in Class 4A while Lake-Lehman is at top-seed Western Wayne and Holy Redeemer plays at Dunmore in a meeting of Electric City Volleyball Academy Super Six ranked teams in Class 2A.
The field hockey tournament gets underway in all three classes with six games at six different starting times.
Although higher seeds earned home fields, conditions have led to two choosing neutral, artificial turf sites.
The day starts with Lackawanna Trail playing Nanticoke in Class A at Keystone College at 1 p.m.
Wyoming Valley West is at Pittston Area in Class 2A at 4 p.m.
There is a doubleheader at Wallenpaupack where the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 champion Lady Buckhorns host Abington Heights in Class 2A at 5:45, then Honesdale plays Delaware Valley in Class 3A at 7:30.
Dallas is at Crestwood in Class 2A at 6.
Wilkes-Barre Area plays at Hazleton Area in Class 3A at 6:30.
The District 2 Cross Country Championships, originally scheduled for Wednesday, are being conducted Thursday.
