More titles will be decided Monday with the District 2 Individual Golf Championships scheduled for Elkview Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m.

The top six Class 2A boys, top four Class 3A boys and top three girls in both classes will earn spots in the state tournament. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Championships are scheduled for Oct. 17-18 at the Penn State Blue Course.

The first district titles of the school year were decided last week when North Pocono, in Class 3A, and Scranton Prep, in Class 2A, won girls golf team titles.

Gwen Powell, the leader of North Pocono’s team championship, is the two-time defending individual champion in Class 3A.

Tunkhannock’s Hallie Brown is also in the Class 3A field this year after winning the Class 2A title last season.

The Class 2A boys field is loaded.

Michael Lugiano from Lake-Lehman is the defending champion.

Nick Werner from Wyoming Seminary is a returning state medalist.

Mid Valley’s Eddie Kaufman already has two tournament titles at Elkview this season with the Bob Simons Classic and the Lackawanna League qualifying tournament for districts.

The Ropietski brothers, Cael and Eli, Lugiano’s Lake-Lehman teammates, have each posted multiple under-par rounds this season. The same is true for Riverside’s Michael Maslanka.

Players from the deep, balanced lineups at Crestwood, Abington Heights and Hazleton Area are likely to figure into the mix in Class 3A boys.

Gianna Cafarella and Miranda Karoscik, the leaders of Scranton Prep’s championship effort, join Wyoming Valley Conference qualifying medalist Arden Brunn from Holy Redeemer among the potential Class 2A girls contenders.

The Monday schedule also includes battles between ranked teams near the top of the standings in boys soccer, girls volleyball and girls tennis.

The top two teams in WVC Division 2 boys soccer meet when Holy Redeemer (6-1-1 in division, 8-1-1 overall) goes to Wyoming Seminary (7-1-1, 8-2-1).

Holy Redeemer is second and Wyoming Seminary fourth among Small Schools in the Riverfront United Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Four of the top five teams in the WVC girls volleyball standings are involved in two matches.

Lake-Lehman (6-1, 7-4) is at Berwick (9-0, 11-0) and Holy Redeemer (7-1, 8-3) is at Dallas (5-1, 5-1).

Berwick is No. 1, Holy Redeemer No 3., Lake-Lehman No. 6 and Dallas No. 7 in the Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 girls teams.

West Scranton (11-2) goes to Abington Heights (12-1) in Lackawanna League girls tennis.

Scranton Prep has already secured the title, but Abington Heights will be trying to lock down sole possession of second place in the regular-season finale for both.

Abington Heights is ranked first and West Scranton third in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Girls Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

There are also field hockey and girls soccer games on the schedule.
