‘Paupack, Scranton schools climb

Following a week when half of the ranked Big Schools suffered losses, the other half moved up.

Wallenpaupack, West Scranton and Scranton each gained ground when this week’s Riverfront Sports Super Six Girls Tennis Power Rankings were released early Monday morning.

Abington Heights and Wyoming Seminary continue to lead the rankings while Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep continue on a collision course of unbeaten teams.

Wyoming Seminary, the defending state champion, and Scranton Prep will each take conference titles and perfect records into the District 2 Class 2A team tournament, which is scheduled to open Friday.

Scranton Prep won the Lackawanna League with four victories, including handing Big School No. 1 Abington Heights its first defeat, 4-1.

The Comets remained in the top position in Class 3A where every other team has at least two losses.

Wallenpaupack and West Scranton gained one spot each into second and third when both won twice.

Crestwood slipped from second to fourth.

Scranton defeated Valley View to trade places with the Cougars, moving from sixth to fifth.

The Small School rankings remained the same.

Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep are followed by Dallas, Wyoming Area and Tunkhannock. The top four Small Schools combined for a 9-0 week.
