The semifinals of the Class A field hockey tournament and the entire quarterfinal round of boys soccer, across all four classes, make up the Monday schedule in District 2.

Four teams with records of 12-6 or better get together in field hockey where despite being the smallest enrollment classification, Class A has consistently produced the district’s top teams in recent seasons.

Three of the four teams have won state titles in their history and the other, Wyoming Area, has made its way into state contention over the past five years.

Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Area are ranked sixth and 11th in Pennsylvania, regardless of classification, by maxfieldhockey.com, leaving them as the top two teams in the state in Class A.

Berths in the state tournament are on the line with both of today’s winners not only qualifying for Wednesday’s 6 p.m. final at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium, but also clinching berths in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs.

Lackawanna Trail (12-6) visits Wyoming Area (16-1) at 4 p.m. Lake-Lehman (12-5) is at Wyoming Seminary (16-2) at 6 p.m. Wyoming Seminary is the three-time defending state champion.

The boys soccer schedule has four games each in Class 3A, 2A and A and two games in Class 4A.

The best matchups appear to be in a deep Class 3A tournament.

Tunkhannock (11-5-1) is at Abington Heights (12-4-1) at 6 in a game between teams ranked in the Riverfront United Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Dallas (9-6-2) is at Crestwood (14-3-1) at 6:30. Dallas handed Crestwood two of its three losses, but has slipped since the second win, going 1-5-1.

None of the defending champions is seeded higher than third.

Wyoming Seminary (9-4) is the third seed in Class 2A where it hosts Lake-Lehman (7-10).

Delaware Valley (6-9-3) is seeded fifth of six teams in Class 4A where it heads to Wyoming Valley West (6-8-1) for a 5 p.m. game. The Warriors are 5-3 and have held seven of the last eight opponents to one goal or less since starting 1-6-3.

Mountain View (7-11) is the sixth seed in Class A where it plays at Elk Lake (12-2) at 3:30 p.m.

The tournament gets underway with a 2:30 game at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore where Class A top seed Holy Cross (12-1) hosts MMI Prep (4-14).

There is a third game between teams with winning records in Class 3A with Wallenpaupack (9-6-2) at Valley View (11-1-4).
