The District 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships move to the semifinal round Wednesday night while basketball takes a break from league races for two of the highest-profile, non-league games of the season.

The wrestling schedule includes a meeting of two division champions when Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 titlist Wyoming Area (13-6) goes to Lackawanna Trail (8-0) for a Class 2A match.

The unbeaten Lions are defending district champions as well as this season’s Lackawanna Division 2 champions.

All four semifinals feature the teams in the Elite Eight.

The best matchup could be the other Class 3A semifinal where third-ranked Delaware Valley is at fourth-ranked Hazleton Area.

No. 8 Western Wayne is at Wayne County rival, No. 6 Honesdale, in the other Class 2A semifinal.

The match at Hazleton Area starts at 6. The other three begin at 6:30.

Wednesday is the second straight night that the No. 1 Big School will host the No. 1 Small School in the My City Mortgage Super Six Basketball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Big School Dunmore handled Small School Riverside, 61-33, in the girls game Tuesday.

WVC Division 2 leader Holy Redeemer puts the district’s best record (15-1) on the line at Lackawanna Division 1 leader Scranton, which had the district’s last perfect record until falling at Wallenpaupack Monday to drop to 11-1.
