The 2021-22 high school sports year in Pennsylvania gets underway Thursday with the first regular-season golf competition.
Weather may create challenges and some matches have already been moved, but the schedule includes up to two Wyoming Valley Conference openers, four non-league matches between Lackawanna League teams and one tournament.
Hazleton Area is scheduled to open its WVC Division 2 title defense at home at Valley Country Club at 4 p.m. against Wyoming Valley West.
Wilkes-Barre Area is at Tunkhannock at 3 p.m. in a WVC Division 1 opener.
Berwick is entered in the Columbia County Classic Tournament at Mill Race Golf Resort in Benton at 2 p.m.
The Lackawanna League teams opening their schedule in inter-division matches that are not part of the standings include a meeting between 2020 playoff teams when defending Division 3 champion Lackawanna Trail plays at Dunmore at 9 a.m.
The other scheduled matches are: Mid Valley at Holy Cross at 9 a.m., West Scranton at Wallenpaupack at 9:30 a.m. and Lakeland at Honesdale at 10 a.m.
