The first step in the postseason for fall sports arrives Wednesday when Lackawanna League boys golfers will play their qualifier for the District 2 Individual Championships that are scheduled for Oct. 5 at Fox Hill Country Club.
The Wednesday qualifier is being held at Elmhurst Country Club, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Lackawanna will qualify up to 16 players in Class 3A and 30 in Class 2A, provided they shoot 93 or better.
If necessary, ties will be broken for the final spot.
The Wednesday schedule also includes more than 40 other events.
The top matchup is in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 field hockey where Crestwood plays at Wyoming Seminary in a game between defending District 2 champions.
Crestwood, ranked fifth in the Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams, has the district’s best overall record at 5-0. The Lady Comets won the district Class 2A title last season.
Top-ranked Wyoming Seminary is the three-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state champion. The Blue Knights are 1-0.
Both teams are 1-0 in the division.
Crestwood is at Dallas in a meeting of 5-1 Wyoming Valley Conference girls tennis teams.
Both teams are fourth – Crestwood among Big Schools; Dallas among Small Schools – in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
In cross country, a six-team Wyoming Valley Conference cluster meet at Tunkhannock includes Dallas and Lake-Lehman going against each other in both boys and girls meets.
All four teams are 2-0.
Lake-Lehman is ranked sixth and Dallas 10th in the Century Dental Associations Cross Country Power Rankings of District 2 teams (across all classifications). They are reversed in girls, with Dallas ranked sixth and Lake-Lehman 10th.
The top two teams in Lackawanna League Division 1 girls volleyball meet when second-place North Pocono (3-1 league, 4-1 overall) plays at Western Wayne (3-0).
