Top two teams to meet again

Wednesday’s first two rounds of the District 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships served to set up the second straight Saturday meeting of No. 1-vs.-No. 2 teams in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Power Rankings of district teams.

Abington Heights held on to No. 1 with last weekend’s 35-29 victory over Delaware Valley for the Lackawanna League Division 1 championship. The teams are scheduled to meet again Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Pittston Area for the District 2 Class 3A title.

Honesdale, the only team to move up in the new rankings, which were released early Saturday morning, will face No. 3 Lackawanna Trail for the District 2 Class 2A title, also at 1:30. The Hornets moved from sixth to fifth, trading places with Wyoming Valley West.

Wallenpaupack, Berwick and Pittston Area are competing in Saturday’s district consolation rounds along with Wyoming Valley West and others. The Buckhorns, Bulldogs and Patriots remained in fourth, seventh and eighth in the rankings.
