Paige Marabell drove in four runs during the third and fourth innings and Kaya Hannon held Dallas without a run or walk during a six-hitter Friday as Tunkhannock claimed the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball championship with a 7-0, home-field victory.
The win allowed Tunkhannock to finish the regular season at 13-1 in the division and 17-2 overall. The Lady Tigers finished one game in front of Pittston Area, which handed them their only WVC loss and finished 12-2. Tunkhannock also landed the top seed in the District 2 Class 4A tournament.
Fifth-place Dallas (6-8 and 7-10) had an earlier impact on the division race, defeating Pittston Area to create the difference between first and second place.
After meeting on the last day of the regular season, Dallas and Tunkhannock will play again in the district quarterfinals Tuesday at Tunkhannock.
All of Friday’s scoring came in the third and fourth innings when Marabell had a homer and double.
Hannon was also a big part of the offense with a double, single and RBI.
The sophomore right-hander closed the regular season with three straight shutouts, giving her six for the year and four in her last five games. During the 19 scoreless innings over the past 10 days, Hannon has struck out 27, walked just 1 and allowed only 10 hits.
Nicole Howell had two hits, a stolen base and a run scored.
Victoria Spaciano was the only Dallas player with two hits and also had one of the team’s two doubles.
