Ricky Vinansky scored 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and led an efficient offensive effort Saturday as Mid Valley went on the road and knocked out District 4 champion Troy, 62-42, in the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A boys basketball playoffs.
Vinansky shot 12-for-18 from the floor, leading the team’s 55.3-percent accuracy (26-for-47).
Nathan Sadaka made all four of his shots while scoring 11 points. He was 3-for-3 from 3-point range while Demaja Dunston made both his attempts as the Spartans went 5-for-8 (62.5 percent).
Danny Nemitz scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 6 assists and made 2 steals.
Sadaka had a team-high four steals.
Mid Valley controlled the game from the start.
Sadaka had five points, outscoring Troy himself, as Mid Valley took a 12-4 lead after one quarter.
Vinansky scored six points in the second and Nemitz added five as the lead grew to 28-15.
Vinansky scored 10 more points while Dunston and Sadaka made 3-pointers in the third quarter and the Spartans headed to the fourth in front 44-25.
Mid Valley (20-6) advanced into a meeting with defending state champion Devon Prep in a game that was moved to Whitehall Wednesday at 7 p.m. Devon Prep, the third-place finisher in District 12, is 12-12.
