Wyoming Area girls fall in debut

Peyton Dincher scored 25 points Saturday as host Jersey Shore ruined Wyoming Area’s Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association girls basketball state tournament debut with a 52-39 victory in a Class 4A first-round game.

The District 2 runner-up Lady Warriors finished the season 13-11. They played Jersey Shore on even terms over the last 20 minutes, but Dincher got the District 4 champions off to a fast start.

Jersey Shore scored the game’s first six points, led 12-5 after one quarter and built the lead to 23-10 midway through the second quarter.

Dincher scored eight points in the first quarter and added the first of her three 3-pointers in the second.

Olivia Allen scored six points for Wyoming Area during the second quarter and the Lady Warriors ended the half of a 7-2 run to get within 25-17.

Wyoming Area closed the gap to 31-27 with 3:17 left in he third before Jersey Shore pulled away again with its own 7-2 run to end the quarter, followed by a 14-10 advantage in the fourth.

Dincher scored 14 points in the second half. She made two 3-pointers while scoring nine in the third quarter, then went 5-for-6 from the line in the fourth.

Jocelyn McCracken scored 7 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter for the winners.

Wyoming Area went 6-for-8 from the line in the fourth, led by Halle Kranson’s 3-for-4.

Morgan Janeski scored a team-high 11 points for Wyoming Area. Jocelyn Williams added nine points and Allen grabbed five rebounds.

Jersey Shore improved to 20-7 and advanced to Wednesday’s second round.
