WA, Tunkhannock join rankings

Wyoming Area and Tunkhannock used 2-0 starts to join the Small School portion of the Riverfront Sports Super Six Girls Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Hazleton Area, which went 3-0 in the opening week, and Delaware Valley, which won its only match, used those starts to move up among Big Schools when the first updated rankings of the season were revealed Monday afternoon.

Abington Heights and Wyoming Seminary held on to their top rankings.

West Scranton remained second to Abington Heights among Big Schools while Scranton Prep and Dallas held the second and third spots behind Wyoming Seminary among Small Schools.

Hazleton Area moved up to third, followed by Crestwood, Delaware Valley and Wallenpaupack in the Big School rankings.

Hazleton Area is 3-0, including a non-league win.

Wallenpaupack leads the Lackawanna League at 3-0, but is 4-1 overall, having split with Valley View, winning the league meeting, but losing to the Cougars in a tournament.

Wyoming Area, Holy Redeemer and Tunkhannock fill the fourth through sixth spots in the girls rankings.

Defending champion and current Wyoming Valley Conference leader Wyoming Seminary is 3-0.

The six teams in the Small School rankings are a combined 13-0 while winning 60 of 64 decided team points.

North Pocono and Holy Cross dropped out of the rankings.
