Wyoming Area boys jump to No. 2

The Wyoming Area boys, Lake-Lehman boys and Lakeland girls made the week’s biggest moves, each climbing two spots in the latest Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were released early Thursday afternoon and again featured both Abington Heights teams, the Holy Cross boys and Wyoming Area girls as No. 1 teams.

Wyoming Valley West and Dallas also climbed in girls rankings since last week.

The Dallas boys rejoined the rankings as the No. 4 Big School team while the Old Forge boys and Mid Valley girls also moved into the rankings.

Big School boys

Abington Heights suffered its first loss, but retained the No. 1 ranking in Big School boys where every other team has lost at least three times.

The Comets defeated then No. 2 North Pocono, 2-0, Friday night in a game between the top two teams in Lackawanna League Division 1, but then lost a non-league game at Crestwood, 2-1, the next morning.

Wyoming Area jumped up from fourth to second after winning three times.

North Pocono posted shutout wins in its other two games, but slipped from second to third.

Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 leader Dallas rejoined the rankings in fourth after going 2-0-1 and allowing just two goals in divisional games during the week.

Wilkes-Barre Area and Delaware Valley remained fifth and sixth.

The Wolfpack won two of three games.

The Warriors won a game before having their five-game winning streak snapped by Abington Heights, 3-0.

Small School boys

Holy Cross, the last unbeaten team in District 2, won its game of the week, 4-2, over Lakeland to remain in first.

Dunmore won twice to hold second. The Bucks have outscored opponents, 37-4, in a five-game winning streak since tying Holy Cross.

Lake-Lehman jumped up to third from fifth when it took over the WVC Division 2 lead with two wins.

Wyoming Seminary also won twice and held fourth.

Holy Redeemer lost twice, including to Lake-Lehman and went from third to fifth.

Old Forge replaced Lakeland in sixth. The Blue Devils gave up just one goal while winning three games to extend their current streak to seven.

Big School girls

The top three teams – Abington Heights, Valley View and Crestwood – remained the same.

Abington Heights and Valley View played to a 3-3 tie and each won its other two games.

In addition to the road tie with No. 2 Valley View, Abington Heights defeated No. 3 Crestwood, 3-1.

Crestwood won its other two games to hold its spot.

Wyoming Valley West, which won its only game, and Dallas, which won three times, each moved up a spot into fourth and fifth.

Delaware Valley dropped from fourth to sixth.

Small School girls

Wyoming Area and Holy Redeemer each won twice by shutouts to hold the top two spots.

The No. 1 Lady Warriors have outscored opponents, 41-1, in a five-game winning streak that it takes into a scheduled Thursday afternoon game against Lake-Lehman.

Lakeland won twice, including 2-1 in a ranked battle with Montrose, to climb from fifth to third.

Lake-Lehman and Montrose each slipped one spot. They are now fourth and fifth.

High-scoring Lackawanna Division 3 leader Mid Valley moved into sixth, replacing Honesdale, which has won just once in the last six games.

Mid Valley has won 5 straight and is averaging 6.8 goals while winning 9 of its last 10.
