West Scranton, North Pocono rise; Old Forge returns into rankings

West Scranton, North Pocono and Old Forge each defeated higher-ranked teams in the past week to move up in this week’s Riverfront Sports Super Six Softball Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were released late Sunday.

West Scranton handed Abington Heights its first loss of the season and the first of two during the week, then swapped places with the Comets, moving up one spot into second among Big Schools.

North Pocono defeated Tunkhannock, 2-0, to move from sixth to fourth, pushing Tunkhannock and Hazleton Area down one spot each to fifth and sixth among Big Schools.

Old Forge replaced Western Wayne in the Small School No. 6 position after beating the Lady ‘Cats twice.

Pittston Area, the district’s lone unbeaten team, remains first among Big Schools while Mid Valley is first among Small Schools despite suffering its second loss. Pittston Area has clinched the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title.

Holy Redeemer, Elk Lake, Holy Cross and Lake-Lehman are still second through fifth among Small Schools. Holy Redeemer has clinched at least a tie for first place in WVC Division 2. Elk Lake has clinched the Lackawanna League Division 4 title.
