Western Wayne became the second District 2 school and 11th school in Pennsylvania to add girls wrestling when it approved the sport at a school board meeting earlier this month.
The motion passed at the June 16 board meeting calls for the new team to be allowed access to all school equipment and uniforms and for athletes to be eligible for letters. The school will pay transportation expenses to Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association-approved events, but will incur no other expenses for the program at this time.
The boys wrestling coaches will also coach the girls.
Western Wayne follows Delaware Valley, which added the sport this spring.
