Western Wayne moves up again

Western Wayne beat a fellow ranked team and Lackawanna League girls contender for the second straight week and used the latest victory to move up in the Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Dunmore joined Western Wayne as the teams moving up this week while North Pocono entered the rankings for the first time this season.

Berwick, Delaware Valley and Holy Redeemer remained unbeaten and held firm in the top three positions.

The latest rankings were released Wednesday at noon and include results through the end of play on Tuesday.

Third-ranked Holy Redeemer won three times to reach 5-0. Second-ranked Delaware Valley is 4-0 and top-ranked Berwick is 3-0 after each won twice.

The district’s fourth unbeaten team is now the fourth-ranked team, Western Wayne, which jumped up two positions after beating Blue Ridge and sweeping Abington Heights.

Nanticoke slipped just one spot, from third to fourth, after suffering its first loss in a Wyoming Valley Conference meeting of unbeaten teams against Delaware Valley.

Dunmore, recovered from its opening loss to Western Wayne, winning twice, including at Blue Ridge to go from seventh to sixth.

Blue Ridge’s two losses to other ranked teams drop the Lady Raiders from fifth to seventh.

North Pocono, which was won four straight since its only loss, which came outside of District 2, debuts in eighth.

Former No. 8 Crestwood lost for the second time and fell out of the rankings.
