2 champs stay unbeaten, add titles

Dallas and Abington Heights added district championships to their conference championships, remaining unbeaten and continuing to hold down the top two spots in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Boys Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep moved up in the latest rankings, which were posted Friday morning.

The rankings, which had been updating weekly, will be posted one last time after all District 2 teams and players complete competition in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state team, singles and doubles tournaments.

Dallas is champion of both the Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A. The Mountaineers have allowed just one team point all season.

Abington Heights is champion of both the Lackawanna League and District 2 Class 3A. The Comets allowed just two team points all season, both to Scranton Prep in their league meeting.

Wyoming Seminary moved from fourth to third. The Blue Knights suffered their only losses against Dallas and gave the Mountaineers the most competitive of their three district matches before falling in the semifinals.

Scranton Prep avenged one of its two regular-season losses, beating Valley View in the district semifinals to reach the Class 2A championship match. The fourth-ranked Cavaliers also moved up one place.

Valley View dropped from third to fifth.

Scranton, Delaware Valley and Wyoming Area held on to sixth through eighth place.

Scranton reached the first District 2 final in school history before losing to Abington Heights. Delaware Valley made the semifinals in Class 3A. Wyoming Area lost in the Class 2A quarterfinals against Wyoming Seminary.
