All four No. 1 teams – Big School and Small School, boys and girls – at the end of the 2021 season are also the top teams in the first Riverfront Sports Super Six Track and Field Power Rankings of District 2 teams this season.
The North Pocono and Mid Valley boys, as well as the Dallas and Lake-Lehman girls, are the No. 1 teams in the rankings, which were released early Monday morning.
All four were unbeaten in their divisions last season and are early this season. All but the Lake-Lehman girls are also defending district champions.
The top three teams in each set of boys rankings are the same as the end of last season.
North Pocono is followed by Valley View and Hazleton Area in Big School boys. The three teams are a combined 19-0 in divisional meets last season and so far this season.
In Small School boys, Mid Valley is followed by Wyoming Area and Scranton Prep, the teams that tied for second in the district behind the Spartans in Class 2A last season.
The three teams tied for first place in WVC Division 1 – Dallas, Hazleton Area and Crestwood – are ranked one through three in Big School girls.
Defending division champions Lake-Lehman, Lakeland and Montrose, with combined division records of 23-0 in 2021 and 2022, are in the top three spots in Small School girls.
The rankings attempt to assess teams on their ability both in the dual meet settings used in league competition and in large meet scoring, such as invitationals and district championships.
Northwest is included in the rankings because it continues to compete in the Wyoming Valley Conference this season, even after an offseason move from District 2 to District 4.
