Pittston Area used its unbeaten finish to remain on top in the final Riverfront Sports Super Six Softball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Tunkhannock used its second straight trip to the final to move up one position in the only change from the previous rankings, which were compiled at the end of the district and subregional tournaments.
Pittston Area finished 25-0 and added its first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state title to the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional titles it had already secured prior to previous rankings. The Lady Patriots are No. 1 in the Big School rankings, which are for Class 6A, 5A and 4A teams.
Mid Valley finished on top of the Small Schools.
Tunkhannock moved up from fifth to fourth, using the long postseason run to trade places with North Pocono, a team it lost to late in the regular season but holds an advantage over in a comparison with common opponents.
Pittston Area is followed in the Big School rankings by West Scranton and Abington Heights. Those two teams, the last two eliminated by Pittston Area in the District 2-4 Class 5A tournament, tied for first place in Lackawanna League Division 1 before West Scranton won the title in a playoff.
Tunkhannock, North Pocono and Hazleton Area complete the Big School rankings. Tunkhannock won District 2 Class 4A, North Pocono won Lackawanna Division 2 and Hazleton Area won District 2 Class 6A.
Mid Valley won Lackawanna Division 3 and District 2 Class 3A titles.
Elk Lake, the Lackawanna Division 4 and District 2 Class 2A champ, finished second to the Spartans among Small Schools.
Holy Cross, Lake-Lehman, Holy Redeemer and Old Forge held the third through sixth positions. Holy Redeemer won WVC Division 2 while Old Forge won District 2 Class A and reached the second round of the state tournament.
