Important dates for PIAA, District 2, Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association and Wyoming Valley Conference sports this fall:
Monday, August 8
The first formal sports activity for the 2022-23 academic year for Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association member schools will take place when golf teams begin practice and football teams report for heat acclimatization drills.
Thursday, August 11
The first legal playing date for golf matches around the state includes opening day in the sport for the Wyoming Valley Conference.
Friday, August 12
The Lackawanna League begins its golf schedule.
Monday, August 15
Football moves from heat acclimatization to full practices while field hockey, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and girls tennis all conduct their first practices.
The Simons Classic for all Lackawanna League boys teams is scheduled at Elkview Country Club.
Saturday, August 20
Teams in football, field hockey, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and girls tennis are allowed their first multi-team scrimmages.
Monday, August 22
This is the first legal playing date for girls tennis and both the Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference will begin their schedules.
The Tryba Tournament for Wyoming Valley Conference boys and girls teams is scheduled at Fox Hill Country Club while the Simons Classic for all Lackawanna League boys teams is scheduled at Elkview Country Club.
Friday, August 26
Teams in football, field hockey, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball are able to open their seasons.
District 2 football teams move right into meaningful games with openers that are part of the playoff ratings.
Tuesday, August 30
The Lackawanna League begins in boys soccer and girls volleyball.
Wednesday, August 31
The Lackawanna League opens in Division 2 and Division 3 girls soccer.
Thursday, September 1
Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball season opens.
Saturday, September 3
The 47th annual Cliff Robbins Sr. Memorial Invitational will serve as the season opener for many District 2 cross country teams.
Tuesday, September 6
Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 seasons open in boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey.
Wednesday, September 7
Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference boys and girls cross country cluster meets begin.
Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 seasons open in boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey.
Thursday, September 8
The Lackawanna League Division 1 girls soccer schedule opens.
