Tyler Wolfe threw his third touchdown pass of the night, finding Connor Shamany for the second time, with 28.7 seconds left to lift host Hazleton Area to a 21-14 victory over Pittston Area in a non-league football game between Wyoming Valley Conference members.
Hazleton Area won its second straight to even its record at 2-2. To do so, the Cougars had to recover after Pittston Area (1-3) erased a 14-point deficit over the final 15½ minutes to force a late tie.
Wolfe finished 21-for-27 for 247 yards passing. He hit Shamany with a 16-yard touchdown pass to break a 14-14 tie.
Shamany had caught a 65-yard pass early in the second quarter to create the 14-0 lead. He finished with 5 catches for 111 yards.
Matthew Cusatis had 9 catches for 79 yards.
Jose Rodriguez made 3 catches for 25 yards, including a 10-yarder in the last minute of the first quarter to open the scoring.
Harry Pugliese ran for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Pittston Area’s comeback. He scored on 3-yard runs in the third and fourth quarters.
Drew DeLucca completed 12 passes for more than 100 yards for the Patriots.
Mitchell Masten made 11 tackles and Jim Beltre had 3 sacks to lead the Hazleton Area defense.
