THURSDAY ROUNDUP: HR volley, Riverside tennis post girls wins

Kaylee Gryboski had 17 kills Thursday as Holy Redeemer swept one of its top Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball rivals in three sets.

Gryboski also had four digs and three blocks as the first-place Lady Royals remained unbeaten with the 25-19, 25-14, 25-9 victory.

It was just the second loss for Nanticoke.

Eve Kilburn had 30 assists and 5 service points for Holy Redeemer. Eva Szura had 13 points, 7 kills and 4 digs. Jenna Skibitsky had 10 points, 4 aces and 2 digs.

Holy Redeemer is ranked third and Nanticoke fifth in the Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight rankings of District 2 teams.

Crestwood swept Wilkes-Barre Area and Lake-Lehman defeated Hazleton Area in four sets in other WVC matches.

North Pocono swept Division 2 leader Susquehanna in three sets in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 crossover.

Abington Heights swept Montrose in the other Lackawanna match.

Delaware Valley swept Warwick, N.Y. in non-league action.


Karissa Ghigiarelli, Madeline DeFaber-Schumacher and Bella Aniska swept singles without losing a game as Riverside defeated West Scranton, 5-0, in a match between ranked Lackawanna League teams.

Riverside was ranked first among Small Schools and West Scranton third among Big Schools going into the match.

The Lady Vikes, Abington Heights and Scranton Prep all remained undefeated with 5-0 shutouts. Abington Heights defeated Dunmore and Scranton Prep defeated Mid Valley.

Abington Heights did not lose a game.

In other Lackawanna matches: Holy Cross defeated Scranton, 4-1; and North Pocono shut out Western Wayne, 5-0.

Dallas shut out Tunkhannock, 5-0, in a WVC match.


Claire Evans and Emily Bartell scored for Abington Heights in a 2-0 WVC Division 2 victory over visiting Tunkhannock.

Norah Rickaby made 13 saves for the Lady Tigers.

Kaitlyn Caladie’s goal with less than two minutes remaining lifted Berwick over Hanover Area in another Division 2 game.
