Hannah Sayre and Alana Palmaioli gave Lake-Lehman first- and third-place finishers in a six-team Wyoming Valley Conference girls cross country cluster meet Wednesday, but Holy Redeemer used superior depth to win the battle of unbeatens at Kirby Park, 26-33.
Holy Redeemer went 3-0 on the day to improve to 10-0 and hold first over Crestwood (8-0).
Sayre won by 30 seconds with a time of 20:46.
Emily Lehman was second for Holy Redeemer, which also had Frankie Basalyga in fourth, then Kyra Hayden, Abby McGowan and Vanessa Flaherty in sixth through eighth. The Lady Royals had 8 of the top 15 finishers.
Kendall Borgers was fifth for Lake-Lehman.
Wyoming Valley West’s Jade McKenna was ninth.
Holy Redeemer and Lake-Lehman, which won two of its three duals, dominated the rest of the competition at the meet.
Hanover Area also picked up two wins.
Wyoming Valley West and Tunkhannock, which beat Nanticoke on a tiebreaker, each picked up one win in three meets.
Dallas went 3-0 in its cluster meet while Crestwood, Hazleton Area and host MMI Prep all went 2-0 by beating Pittston Area and Wilkes-Barre Area in the other WVC meet.
In the only Lackawanna League meet of the day, host Montrose went 5-0, including a 25-32 win over Scranton Prep in a meeting of teams that started the day at 8-1.
The meet included a record-shattering performance by Elk Lake senior Krista Jones.
Dallas hosted the meet, but used the Luzerne County Rec Field in Forty Fort to do so.
Sarah Williams won by more than a minute in 20:26 and Dallas teammates Olivia Thomas and Julianna Sobocinski finished second and third to clinch the three victories. The Mountaineers had 7 of the top 15.
Abigail Zieleski from Northwest was fourth, followed by Jadia Geiser from Berwick.
Northwest and Berwick each went 2-1 on the day. Wyoming Area and Wyoming Seminary were 1-2 while Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech was 0-3.
Crestwood defeated Pittston Area, 15-48, and Wilkes-Barre Area, 15-50.
Molly DeMarzo, Ella Novelli and Maggie Kozich made it a 1-2-3 finish for Crestwood.
Montrose defeated Scranton Prep, 25-32, and posted its four other wins by at least 15 points.
It was one of the most important meets of the season in the league with five of the six teams coming in with winning records in the week when all teams, including those in the same cluster, are scored against each other at each site.
Earlier electronic scoring errors from the meet have been corrected in the league’s official standings, giving Blue Ridge and Elk Lake the wins they earned over Scranton Prep.
Blue Ridge had a 4-1 day, including beating Elk Lake on a tiebreaker.
Elk Lake went 3-2 and Scranton Prep was 2-3.
Holy Cross came in with a winning record, but beat only winless Carbondale.
Krista Jones kept winning for Elk Lake, finishing in 18:57.7 to win by 36.8 seconds. She also took 26.3 seconds off the record set seven seconds ago by her sister, Kenzie Jones.
Krista Jones already held the course records at Blue Ridge, Lackawanna Trail and Western Wayne prior to this, her senior season.
Scranton Prep’s Jenna Hillebrand was second. Teammate Riley Matasavage was eighth.
Paige Brewer and Daegan Giannone were third and fourth for Montrose while Stephanie Summerville was sixth and Mary Pichette ninth.
Emma Piechocki was seventh and Cameron Robinson 11th to lead Blue Ridge.
Elk Lake’s Sidney Upright rounded out the top 10.
