Hazleton Area avenged one-goal losses to Honesdale in last season’s championship game and from this regular season with a 2-1 win for the District 2 title.
The Lady Cougars also used that win to trade places with Honesdale in the latest Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams that were determined this weekend.
Hazleton Area is one of four teams in the rankings that continue into state play.
The other state teams occupy the first three spots.
District 2 Class A champion and three-time defending state champion Wyoming Seminary remains in the same spot it has been through all 11 sets of rankings – No. 1.
Wyoming Area, which has suffered its only two losses against the Blue Knights, is second.
Class 2A champion Crestwood is third.
Lake-Lehman remains fourth after having its season ended by Wyoming Seminary in the Class A semifinals.
