The top four teams in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls basketball square off Monday night in two games that will determine how much of a race is left when the night is over.
Third-place Nanticoke is at first-place Lake-Lehman while fourth-place Wyoming Area is at second-place Holy Redeemer.
Nanticoke (7-3 in the division and 11-8 overall) is responsible for the only division loss by defending champion Lake-Lehman (8-1, 13-3).
If Lake-Lehman can avenge that loss, it has a chance to clinch a tie for first place if it gets help from Wyoming Area (6-3, 12-8). Holy Redeemer is 8-2 and 11-8.
The Wallenpaupack boys are in a similar situation in Lackawanna League Division 2, depending on the results Division 1-2 crossovers that are part of the standings.
If Wallenpaupack (8-1, 14-3) wins at West Scranton (3-7, 9-9) and defending champion North Pocono (6-3, 12-4) loses at home against Valley View (2-8, 7-11), the Buckhorns can clinch at least a tie for first place.
Defending WVC Division 2 boys champion Wyoming Seminary has a chance to play spoiler. If the Blue Knights (2-7, 3-16) upset host Nanticoke (7-2, 9-9), it would give the title to Holy Redeemer.
The Royals, who are 10-0 in the division, are idle. They have already clinched at least a tie for first place.
There are also 2 Lackawanna League boys and girls swimming meets and a non-league wrestling match on a schedule that includes 15 boys basketball and 8 girls basketball games. For a full schedule of Monday’s basketball games, see: https://nepabasketball.com/composite?d=2022-02-07.
