Maddy Gilhool scored goals in back-to-back road wins by the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, which conducted its women’s soccer season, along with the rest of the Southern Conference, in the spring to replace a fall season lost to the pandemic.
The Spartans went 4-4-1 in the conference and 4-5-2 overall, despite scoring just eight goals. Gilhool’s two goals allowed her to share the scoring lead with two teammates.
Gilhool came off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over The Citadel March 21. She had the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Virginia Military Academy March 27.
The sophomore forward from Montrose played in 10 games, starting seven at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I school.
Gilhool took 11 shots, putting 5 on goal, in 536 minutes of playing time.
At Montrose, Gilhool set a state record with 81 goals in her senior season and set a school record of 187 career goals.
