Berwick extends football streak

The Berwick Bulldogs celebrated Homecoming, extended their winning streak to four games and set up a big game for next week all in one shot Friday night by spreading the ball around in a ground game that kept them in control on the way to a 34-7, Wyoming Valley Conference Class 4A Division victory over Pittston Area at Crispin Field.

Bo Sheptock and Ben Knorr each rushed for more than 90 yards and a touchdown while their teammates combined to chip in more than 80.

Berwick (5-3) goes to Dallas (5-2) next week with a chance to take over the division lead and improve their seeding position for the District 2 Class 4A playoffs that begin two weeks later.

The Bulldogs scored three times in the last 6:28 of the first quarter to open a 21-0 lead.

Knorr opened the scoring with a 4-yard run and added a two-point conversion after Dray Wilk’s second touchdown.

Wilk caught a 21-yard pass from Matt Lonczynski for his first score, then broke a 51-yard run.

The score remained at 21-0 until Harry Pugliese scored Pittston Area’s only touchdown, also from 51 yards, with 8:34 remaining in the third quarter.

Berwick put the game away early in the fourth quarter.

Sheptock ran 68 yards for a touchdown with 10:23 left and Trystan Rush added the final touchdown less than four minutes later.

Berwick’s defense limited Pittston Area to six first downs.

The Patriots fell to 2-6.
