District 2 Honor Roll

The top performances in District 2 sports from the week of Oct. 4-10:

Tunkhannock’s Hallie Brown

Hallie Brown, Tunkhannock girls golf

The freshman beat a veteran field to win the District 2 Class 2A title. Brown’s 2-over-par, 75 at Fox Hill Country Club was the best score by any girl in either classification during the Oct. 5 championships.

Vincent DePalma, Carbondale football

DePalma carried 16 times for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns and his only pass went for another score during a 52-26 victory over Susquehanna. DePalma’s pass went for an 18-yard score on fourth-and-four and put the Chargers ahead to stay. His 3 second-half carries produced 204 yards, including 94- and 63-yard touchdowns. DePalma also made a tackle on defense and assisted on two others.

Lake-Lehman’s Michael Lugiano

Michael Lugiano, Lake-Lehman boys golf

Lugiano shot a 2-under-par, 69 for the day’s best score while winning the District 2 Class 2A boys title Oct. 5 at Fox Hill Country Club. Lugiano took an early lead and protected it with a stretch of six straight pars. He had 4 birdies, 12 pars and just 2 bogeys.

Western Wayne’s Kaeli Romanowski

Kaeli Romanowski, Western Wayne girls volleyball

Romanowski became Western Wayne’s all-time career leader in assists during a 3-0 week in which the Lady ‘Cats clinched the Lackawanna League Division 1 title. She had 74 assists during the week, along with 11 digs, 5 kills and 5 aces.

Ilana Rosenthal, Wyoming Seminary girls tennis

Rosenthal completed a perfect freshman season in the Wyoming Valley Conference, winning 6-0, 6-0, at first singles when the Blue Knights defeated Hazleton Area, 4-1, to finish unbeaten as a team and take the title outright.

Colin Skeen, Valley View football

Skeen handled some of the quarterback duties in unbeaten Valley View’s first game since losing starter Adam Howanitz for the season and also played at his usual wide receiver spot. He carried 4 times for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns while also catching an 80-yard touchdown pass in a 46-24 victory over Wallenpaupack.
