Bottom half of rankings change

The top half of the Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 girls teams remained perfect and held tightly to its positions.

The bottom half, however, went through a complete overhaul when the rankings were revealed early Friday afternoon.

Lake-Lehman moved up, three teams moved out and Pittston Area, North Pocono and Dunmore all moved in.

Delaware Valley and Berwick not only remained unbeaten, but held on to the first and second spots by continuing to win every set of the season.

The defending Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 4A champion Lady Warriors have swept all five opponents in three sets.

Berwick, the defending District 2 Class 3A champion, has also won every match 3-0.

Holy Redeemer is a half-match in front of Delaware Valley, Berwick and Lake-Lehman in the WVC standings and remains third. The Lady Royals are 5-0 in the WVC and 6-0 overall after losing a set for the first time all season in a match with rankings newcomer Pittston Area.

Blue Ridge won three times to match Holy Redeemer at 6-0 for the best overall record in the district. The Lady Raiders are fourth, one spot behind the Lady Royals.

The top four are also the four defending district champions. Holy Redeemer won Class 2A last year and Blue Ridge won Class A.

Pittston Area not only joined the rankings, but rose all the way to fifth place. The Lady Patriots won twice, extending their winning streak to four, before taking the opening set in a loss to Holy Redeemer.

Lake-Lehman moves up from eighth to sixth, despite a non-league loss to Western Wayne, because of two more wins in the WVC, including one over former No. 5 Dallas.

North Pocono and Dunmore, the second- and third-place teams in Lackawanna League Division 1 behind Blue Ridge, take over the seventh and eighth spots.

North Pocono defeated Abington Heights and Susquehanna and has now swept its last three opponents.

Dunmore had a 3-0 week, beating Abington Heights, defending champion Western Wayne and Montrose.

Dallas, Nanticoke and Tunkhannock all fell from the rankings. Nanticoke suffered through an 0-4 week while Dallas and Tunkhannock each lost.
