Dallas freshman earns state medal

District 2 champion Madison Hedglin capped a standout freshman season by earning District 2’s only Class 2A girls state medal with a 15th -place finish Saturday morning in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on the Hershey Parkview Course.

Hedglin helped Dallas place 12th while Holy Redeemer was 14th out of 21 teams in the race, which was won by Montour from District 7. Montour defeated Central Cambria, 84-97.

Blue Mountain’s Olivia Haas repeated as champion, destroying the field to win by more than 30 seconds with a 3.1-mile time of 18:20.3.

Hedglin patiently worked her way up through the pack to finish 15th in 19:58.9. She was 47th out of 252 after one mile, 29th at the midway point, 25th after two miles and 16th after four of the five kilometers.

The top 25 in each race earn medals.
