GIRLS SOCCER: Holy Redeemer joins favorites in Saturday’s finals

Jessica Ferro scored less than three minutes into the game and the goal held up the rest of the way as Holy Redeemer defeated host Wyoming Area, 1-0, Thursday in a District 2 Class 2A girls soccer semifinal.

The third-seeded Lady Royals advance to Saturday’s finals where the other seven spots across four classifications were filled by first and second seeds.

Isabella Granteed assisted on the goal with 37:01 left in the first half.

Holy Redeemer wound up with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks and 9-8 in shots on goal.

Marie Lombardi from Holy Redeemer and Olivia Allen from Wyoming Area each made eight saves.

Half of Thursday’s eight semifinals were decided by a single goal.

Dallas will play at Abington Heights Saturday night in Class 3A after each escaped close games.

Dallas defeated Berwick, 3-2, behind goals from Olivia Maniskas, Elizabeth Viglone and Iris Hobson-Tomascik.

Lauren Lefchak’s penalty kick with 39.4 seconds left lifted Abington Heights over Crestwood, 2-1.

Allison Dammer made nine saves and Bryn Stiles had an unassisted goal in the first half.

Rachel Stover scored for Crestwood.

Wyoming Valley West defeated Wilkes-Barre Area, 2-1, in a penalty kick shootout in the District 2-4 Class 4A Subregional to earn a shot at top-seeded Delaware Valley, a 4-1 winner over Williamsport.

Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Valley West remained tied, 1-1, through two overtimes.

Each team got five penalty kick attempts and Wyoming Valley West outscored Wilkes-Barre Area, 4-3.

Sage Henry scored twice for Delaware Valley.

Holy Redeemer’s win puts it in the final against Lake-Lehman, which shut out Nanticoke, 4-0.

The game was scoreless into the last 19 minutes before Hailey Kline produced a hat trick to lead the victory.

Lakeland and Montrose rolled into their rematch for the Class A title.

Lakeland shut out Mountain View, 4-0, and Montrose defeated Dunmore, 5-1.

Abby Davis had a natural hat trick for Lakeland after Nadia Gill opened the scoring.

Tangi Smith scored twice for Montrose.
