Scranton Prep’s sixth straight perfect Lackawanna League girls basketball season led to another year of the Classics figuring prominently on the Division 1 all-star team.
Rita Collins is the latest Scranton Prep Player of the Year, following Lizzie Neville, who followed four Rachael Rose selections.
Bob Beviglia is Coach of the Year in the division for the fourth straight time.
The previous selections were made by NEPABasketball.com, which was merged into NEPASportsNation.com prior to the start of the season to bring coverage of all District 2 sports onto one website.
Collins, a second-team all-star last season, moved to the top of the division when the all-star team was released Tuesday night. She led the championship Classics in rebounds (8.4 per game) and steals (4.0) while ranking second in points (9.8) and assists (3.2).
Valley View’s Giada Costa, one of four sophomores on the all-underclassmen first team, moves up from second team a year ago.
Scranton Prep has Maya Jenkins and Claire McGrath on the first team along with Maggie O’Shea from Scranton and Madison Zalewski from Abington Heights.
The second team includes two players who have previously received all-star recognition.
Finley Bittenbender from Scranton was a first-teamer last year and a second-teamer two years ago as a freshman.
Abington Heights sophomore Maggie Coleman is already a two-time, second-teamer.
