Ella Smith and Maria Miller were rewarded for their roles in Wallenpaupack’s Lackawanna League Division 2 girls basketball championship with selections as Player and Coach of the Year in conjunction with the division all-star team released by NEPASportsNation.com late Tuesday night.
Smith led the Lady Buckhorns to the title, averaging 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals.
Miller repeated as the division Coach of the Year, earning the honor in each of her first two seasons. She was selected last year after leading the team to an improvement from 4-9 to 7-6 in the league. That record improved to 10-3 this season, then Wallenpaupack won a playoff over North Pocono for the division title.
The Wallenpaupack championship was produced with six straight wins to end league play – five regular-season games and the division playoff. Smith scored 24, 23 and 21 points in the last three of those games, two of which were against North Pocono.
The first-team all-stars include North Pocono’s Kylie Mastillo and Western Wayne’s Skylar Long, who were both second-team selections last season by NEPABasketball.com. Since last season, NEPABasketball.com has become part of NEPASportsation.com, merging coverage of all District 2 sports into one site.
The first team also includes Wallenpaupack’s Grace Steffen, North Pocono’s Sam Polishan and Honesdale’s Natalie Goldstein.
