Knights, Wildcats, Devils move up

Scranton remained unbeaten and continued its climb in this week’s Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings.

The Knights (4-0) debuted on the Big School list last week and this week moved up from sixth to fifth in the rankings, which are compiled by our partner website, NEPAFootball.com. District 2 teams and Williamsport, which plays in the Wyoming Valley Conference where every other member is from District 2, are eligible for the rankings.

Small Schools Western Wayne and Old Forge also moved up one position this week.

More shuffling could be ahead. Both the Wildcats and Blue Devils play games against other ranked teams this week.

Unbeatens Hazleton Area, in the Big Schools, and Lakeland, in the Small Schools, continue to hold down the top rankings. The Cougars have been there all season and the Chiefs arrived at the top after Opening Night.

Half of the teams in the Big School rankings are 4-0.

Unbeaten Dallas remains second, followed again by Crestwood and Valley View.

Scranton moves up to fifth.

Berwick, returning to the rankings in sixth, is the only new team to join the list this week.

North Pocono falls from the rankings.

The top three Big Schools face teams with losing records and the other three face .500 opponents.

Hazleton Area is at West Scranton, Dallas hosts Wyoming Valley West, Crestwood hosts Williamsport, Valley View is at Pittston Area, Scranton is at North Pocono and Berwick hosts Wilkes-Barre Area.

Top-ranked Lakeland is at fifth-ranked Old Forge in an interesting week for the ranked Small School teams.

Western Wayne took over second, trading places with Scranton Prep. The Wildcats are at Carbondale.

The challenges continue for Scranton Prep, which has lost to two currently ranked teams. The Cavaliers play at Delaware Valley, which has spent time this season among the ranked Big Schools.

Dunmore is at Lackawanna Trail, the team that was passed by Old Forge this week and slipped a spot into sixth.
