Lackawanna Trail season ends

Matt Frame and Trevor Amorin each rushed for more than 100 yards Friday night and combined for the game’s last 3 touchdowns as host Northern Lehigh pulled away from Lackawanna Trail for a 35-14 victory in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A football first-round game.

Lackawanna Trail tied the game in the third quarter and was on the verge of doing so again in the fourth quarter when Northern Lehigh made a defensive stand.

The Bulldogs followed the stand with a daring offensive decision, going for fourth down from their 9.

Amorin turned the fourth-down decision into a 91-yard touchdown run around left end.

Frame added a 20-yard run to close the scoring and send District 11 champion Northern Lehigh into the state quarterfinals.

Lackawanna Trail finishes 8-4.

The Lions fought back after Dylan Smoyer found Brett Miser for touchdown passes of 32 and 35 yards three minutes apart in the first quarter to open a 14-0 lead.

Lukas Gumble broke a 47-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7 after one quarter.

Following a scoreless second quarter, Lackawanna Trail tied the game on a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kolbee Soltis.

Amorin’s 8-yard touchdown run sent the Bulldogs into the fourth quarter with the lead.

The middle of the Northern Lehigh defensive front stopped Hunter Patterson inside the 1 on a third-and-goal run from the 2, then kept quarterback Owen Lisk inches short of the goal line on fourth down.

Northern Lehigh also stopped Lackawanna Trail inside the 5 in the second quarter and held the Lions to a missed field goal on another threat.

Frame carried 18 times for 136 yards, pushing him past 1,500 yards for the season. Amorin carried 9 times for 121 yards.
