MONDAY ROUNDUP: Wolfpack last unbeaten in WVC D1 girls

Wilkes-Barre Area stands as the last unbeaten in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 girls soccer after defeating Crestwood, 5-0, while Dallas was handing Wyoming Valley West its first conference loss, 4-2.

Esabella Mendola scored two goals as the Wolfpack improved to 5-0 in the division and 7-2 overall.

Krystal Haertter scored the other goal and Angelena Mendola had a five-save shutout.

Dallas and Wyoming Valley West now share second place at 3-1.

Megan MacNeely scored the game-winning goal after assisting the tying goal as Dallas rallied for the victory.

Jordyn Meade, Caelan Gallagher and Liv Maniskas also scored for the Mountaineers.

Annabelle Wojciechowski and Veronica Warunek scored for Wyoming Valley West.

Berwick defeated Pittston Area, 4-1, in the other WVC Division 1 game.

Shannon Gillen and Eva Canevari scored twice each to lead Valley View to a 4-0 victory over Honesdale in a Lackawanna Division 1 game.

BOYS SOCCER

North Pocono packed all its scoring into the first 15:03, then held Scranton without a shot or corner kick for the entire game while posting a 4-0 Lackawanna Division 1 victory.

Alex Pagoto got the scoring started 1:26 into the game.

Jonah Yurkanin, who sandwiched two goals around an assist of a Corbin Lankford goal, scored 36 seconds later.

Nate Steenback scored on a Ryan Salony assist midway through the second half to lift Abington Heights over Scranton Prep, 1-0, in another Division 1 game.

The Comets had a 20-7 advantage in shots and did not allow a corner kick.

Philip Sykes made six saves in the shutout.

Valley View remained undefeated with a 4-0 shutout of Honesdale in another Lackawanna Division 1 game.

Ashton Fitzsimmons scored both goals and Mark Christina made 15 saves as Western Wayne defeated Gregory the Great in Lackawanna Division 2.

Timmy Roberts and Michael Smith had the assists.

Dunmore edged Lakeland, 4-3, and Holy Cross routed Forest City, 16-0, in other Lackawanna Division 2 games.

Blue Ridge defeated Montrose and Elk Lake beat West Scranton, both by 5-0 scores, in Lackawanna Division 3.

Cole Kaiser scored three goals and Evan Kaiser added two as Lake-Lehman defeated MMI Prep, 6-2, in WVC Division 2.

Wyoming Area shut out Hanover Area, 2-0, and Holy Redeemer blanked Wyoming Seminary, 2-0, in other Division 2 games.

Dylan Kostik and Kendall Heck scored for Wyoming Area, both on assists from Sean Burke for Wyoming Area.

John Kuderka and Prem Majamundar scored, both on Mark Atherton assists, for Holy Redeemer.

The Royals got 10 saves from Tyler Tarnalicki.

GIRLS TENNIS

Abington Heights and Scranton Prep remained unbeaten in the Lackawanna League with 5-0 victories.

Bella Peters won, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles against Holy Cross and Abington Heights won each match in straight sets while remaining a half-match in front of Scranton Prep, which also had five straight-sets victories against Western Wayne.

West Scranton won a meeting of winning teams from Valley View, 5-0, when Gabrielle Chantiloupe, Madison Maloney and Mia Butka each won singles matches in straight sets and the two doubles teams rallied for wins.

North Pocono shut out Scranton, 5-0, and Wallenpaupack defeated Mid Valley, 4-1, in the other Lackawanna League matches.

Madison Elick and Brenna Slusser won, 6-0, 6-0, at second and third singles as Hanover Area moved above .500 in the Wyoming Valley Conference with a 5-0 shutout of Wilkes-Barre Area.

Maggie Murphy won, 6-2, 6-1, and the Lady Hawkeyes picked up forfeits in both doubles spots while winning for the fifth time in six matches after an 0-3 start.

Also in the WVC, Hazleton Area defeated Berwick, 3-2.
