Mountaineers, Trojans, Tigers climb

Dallas moved up while North Pocono and Tunkhannock moved into this week’s Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings.

The rankings, compiled weekly by our partner site, NEPAFootball.com, are for teams in the Lackawanna Football Conference and Wyoming Valley Conference.

One of the big questions for teams in those rankings this week is if or who they will play.

Three of the dozen teams that appear in the rankings have had their upcoming games canceled by opponents because of situations related to COVID-19.

For the second straight week all the changes take place in the Big School half of the rankings while the Small School teams remain intact, including in the same order.

Valley View, in Big Schools, and Scranton Prep, in Small Schools, remained in the top spots.

After beating Abington Heights, 45-6, Valley View is scheduled to play at Scranton Friday night.

Williamsport held on to second by defeating Mifflin County, 24-2. It plays Central Mountain Friday.

Dallas moved up from fifth to third after a 45-0 rout of Wilkes-Barre Area. The Mountaineers were scheduled to play at Lake-Lehman, but that game has been canceled.

Wallenpaupack dropped from third to fourth after its 42-10 loss to Scranton Prep and will face another unbeaten, ranked Small School when it travels to Lakeland Friday night.

North Pocono and Tunkhannock won to improve 2-1 and move into fifth and sixth going into their scheduled meeting Friday night at North Pocono.

The Trojans scored the first 46 points in a 46-21 win over Honesdale.

The Tigers scored the first 29 points in a 29-21 victory over Crestwood.

Delaware Valley dropped to 0-3 and Wyoming Valley West was the first team to lose to Pittston Area since 2019, dropping both out of the rankings.

Scranton Prep is once again followed in the Small School rankings by Wyoming Area, Western Wayne, Old Forge, Lakeland and Lackawanna Trail.

Scranton Prep was scheduled to play at Dunmore Friday, but that game has been canceled.

Wyoming Area defeated Nanticoke, 47-13, and will host four-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A state champion Southern Columbia Friday.

Western Wayne canceled last week’s scheduled game at Moore Catholic in Staten Island. The Wildcats return to play at Crestwood (0-3).

Old Forge, which beat Carbondale, 41-10, had its game at Northwest for Friday canceled.

Lakeland is coming off a 42-21 win over Susquehanna as it prepares to host Wallenpaupack.

Lackawanna Trail shut out Riverside, 34-0. It goes to Susquehanna (0-3) Saturday.
