NP, Sem boys; girls from Dallas, HR open the season with top rankings

The North Pocono and Wyoming Seminary boys, along with the Dallas and Holy Redeemer girls, open league play as the top teams in the Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The “preseason” rankings, released prior to league play starting but after weekend non-league action for some teams, were revealed Monday morning. The rankings will be updated each Sunday during the regular season.

The rankings are split into Big School (Class 4A and 3A) and Small School (Class 2A and A) on both the boys and girls sides.

The North Pocono boys and Dallas girls open the season as the top-ranked Big Schools.

The Wyoming Seminary boys and Holy Redeemer girls are in the top spots among Small Schools.

North Pocono finished second last season in Lackawanna League Division 1 and reached the District 2 Class 3A semifinals.

The four Class 3A semifinalists occupy the top four Big School spots.

Crestwood, the defending district 3A and Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion, is second.

Valley View, which lost to Crestwood in the district final and placed third in Lackawanna Division 1, is third.

Dallas, which was second in WVC Division 1, is ranked fourth.

Delaware Valley, coming off Lackawanna Division 1 and district Class 4A championships, is fifth.

Hazleton Area is sixth.

Wyoming Seminary, coming off its third straight district Class 2A title as well as the WVC Division 2 championship, leads the Small School boys.

Wyoming Area, the team Wyoming Seminary beat in the district final, is second. The Warriors placed third in WVC Division 2 last season.

Lackawanna members Mountain View, Holy Cross, Old Forge and Dunmore complete the rankings.

Mountain View won Lackawanna Division 2 and District 2 Class A before being the only team from the district to win a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament game last season.

Holy Cross finished third in Lackawanna Division 2 and advanced to the district Class A semifinals.

Old Forge won Lackawanna Division 3 for its first soccer title.

Dunmore placed second in Lackawanna Division 2.

Dallas and Berwick were the top two teams in both WVC Division 1 and district Class 3A girls last season and they open in the top two spots in the Big School girls rankings.

Dallas, the division champion and district runner-up, is first.

Berwick, the district champion and division runner-up, is second.

Delaware Valley, the reigning Lackawanna Division 1 and district Class 4A champion, is third.

Wyoming Valley West, which was third in WVC Division 1, ranks fourth.

After finishing second in Lackawanna Division 1 last season, Wallenpaupack opens in fifth.

Abington Heights, which sat out last season, is sixth.

Holy Redeemer is the first team to 2-0 this season and got there by outscoring opponents 17-0.

The Lady Royals, coming off a WVC Division 2 title and trip to the district Class 2A final, leads the Small Schools.

Montrose is second, followed by Wyoming Area, Western Wayne, Lake-Lehman and Lakeland.

Montrose won the district Class A title after placing third in Lackawanna Division 2.

Wyoming Area tied for second in WVC Division 2 and reached the district Class 2A semifinals.

Western Wayne was second in Lackawanna Division 2.

Lake-Lehman is the defending district Class 2A champion after tying for second in WVC Division 2.

Lakeland won Lackawanna Division 2 before losing in the district Class A final.
