SCRANTON – The Abington Heights girls not only won, but, as they often have in 15 seasons without a dual meet loss, they separated themselves from the pack Thursday night in the 66th annual Jordan Relays at Memorial Stadium.

The Comets took the team scoring title in Class 3A girls comfortably, outscoring second-place Wallenpaupack, 52-41.

Abington Heights won four of the six events and did so decisively, with each of those four victories coming by more than five seconds over the second-closest Class 3A team.

Gigi Sabatini and Anna Scoblick were each part of three relay wins.

Sabatini started and finished the championship night. She ran a sizzling 2:15.6 leadoff 800-meter leg in the opening distance medley relay victory and ran anchor 400 legs of 58.4 and 58.0 in the 1200 sprint medley relay and the 4×400 relay.

“Obviously, districts is the priority, but Jordans still mean a real lot to us,” Sabatini said. “I think this performance here puts us in a good place going into league and district meets.”

Scoblick and Sabatini were part of the same three relays, which resulted in wins over all teams, including the Class 2A group, and margins of 13.17, 6.01 and 5.37 seconds over the top Class 3A opponents.

Abington Heights also beat the Class 3A field by 7.34 seconds in the 1600 medley relay where it was second overall to Carbondale.

Reese Morgan anchored both the distance medley relay, where she ran the last 1600, and the 1600 sprint medley, where she ran the last 800.

Kaylyn Elliott led off both the 1200 sprint medley and 4×400 relay. She also ran the 400 in the sprint medley.

Pittston Area’s sprinters and Wallenpaupack’s middle distance runners won the other two events, the 4×100 and 4×800. Pittston Area placed third in the final team standings.
