PLAINS – Lexi Schecterly’s historic performance earned the Lake-Lehman sophomore Outstanding Wrestler honors while wrestlers from Lackawanna Trail and Wyoming Area combined to claim 9 of the 13 Class 2A titles in the District 2 Individual Wrestling Championships Saturday at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Schecterly became the first female wrestler to win a District 2 wrestling gold medal when she pinned Lackawanna Trail’s Brayden Clarke in 3:06 of the 106-pound final.

After becoming the first girl to reach the district final last year as a freshman, Schecterly returned to the final with an 11-1 victory over Wyoming Area’s Connor Novakowski.

Schecterly scored a takedown for the only points of the first period. She was still up 2-0 when she turned and pinned Clarke to secure the title.

The next two titles were won by the teams that wound up at the top of the standings.

Lackawanna Trail outscored Wyoming Area, 246½-192½, for the team championship.

Cole Henry won at 113 for the Lions and was followed to the top of the medal stand by teammates Ethan Lee (132), Michael Bluhm (145), Robbie Schneider (160) and Jonah Houser (215).

Defending state champion Jaden Pepe from Wyoming Area pinned Josh Young from Honesdale in 1:01 at 120 for the quickest bout of the final. Teammates Anthony Evanitsky (138), Cooper Price (152) and Connor Wrobleski (189) also won.

Lackawanna Trail advanced 11 wrestlers to next weekend’s Class 2A Northeast Regional at Williamsport with top-four finishers in their weight classes.

Wyoming Area and Honesdale each advanced nine.

The third-place Hornets had 11 medalists (top-six finishes), one less than Lackawanna Trail and one more than Wyoming Area, while placing a strong third with 173 points.

No other teams accumulated 100 points.

Scranton Prep had two champions – Ben Frederick, at 172, and Max Shnipes, at 285.

Blue Ridge’s Jackson Maby won the other title at 126.
