Former Scranton High School all-stater Jason Shields has entered the National Collegiate Athletic Association Transfer Portal after spending his freshman season at Division II Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Shields announced the decision on his Twitter account this week.
Jefferson went 18-12 and reached the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.
Shields appeared in 21 games, averaging 4.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game.
Along the way, the 6-foot-5 guard had some breakthrough moments.
After playing just 1 minute of 1 game in Jefferson’s first 6, Shields had 7 points in 10 minutes against Chestnut Hill in his second college appearance. Less than a week later, Shields scored his season-high of 17 points in just 17 minutes against Wilmington.
Shields scored 15 and 16 points in consecutive mid-February games, shooting 7-for-12 from 3-point range. He also had his best rebounding games, combining for 11 while playing 53 minutes.
Shields did not play more than 12 minutes in a game the rest of the season.
On the season, Shields hit 36.8 percent from the floor, 34.5 percent on 3-pointers and 81.0 percent from the line.
