Justice Shoats is an all-state selection in basketball and a state champion in track and field.
The Holy Redeemer senior will try to extend his success in the two sports to the college level after announcing Saturday that he will accept a full athletic scholarship to Lock Haven University.
Lock Haven, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference school, competes on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II level in both sports.
Shoats, who also played for the NEPA Elite Coyle 17U boys AAU team last year, was a second-team Class 3A all-state choice by Pennsylvania Sports Writers after leading Holy Redeemer to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state semifinals.
As a first-year participant in the sport last season, Shoats won a state title in the long jump. This season, he has taken up another new event, the high jump, and is the top Class 2A seed in both jumping events for Tuesday and Wednesday’s District 2 Track and Field Championships. He is also the second seed in the 100-meter dash.
Lock Haven, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II school, went 8-14 in the PSAC and 11-16 overall during the 2021-22 season.
The Bald Eagles finished eighth out of 13 men’s teams Friday through Sunday in the PSAC Track and Field Championships.
