SOCCER ROUNDUP: L-L girls hand Holy Redeemer first defeat, 1-0

Lake-Lehman handed host Holy Redeemer its first loss of the season and remained unbeaten within the division to take the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls soccer lead Saturday with a 1-0 victory.

The Lady Knights have lost four non-league games, but they used the win to assume sole possession of the division lead.

Hailey Kline converted on a penalty kick for the game’s only goal.

In other WVC Division 2 games: Nanticoke defeated Wyoming Seminary, 3-1, and Wyoming Area shut out Tunkhannock, 8-0.

Alexis Atkins scored all three Nanticoke goals.

Halle Kranson scored four goals and assisted on another. Anna Wisnewski scored twice and Hannah Fairchild had three assists.

Ava Sherman scored two goals for Valley View in a 3-1 Lackawanna League Division 1 victory over Wallenpaupack.

Shannon Gillen had the other goal for the Cougars.

In non-league games: Wilkes-Barre Area routed West Scranton, 7-0; Crestwood shut out Mountain View, 2-0; Delaware Valley blanked Minisink Valley, N.Y., 6-0; North Pocono defeated Holy Cross, 3-1; and Northwestern Lehigh ripped Scranton, Prep, 6-0.


Carmen DeNapoli and Maynor Coastro-Lemus each scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Dunmore to a 7-1 romp over West Scranton in a non-league game.

Shay Gillen scored five goals for unbeaten Valley View in a 6-1 win over Wyoming Valley West.

Crestwood defeated Pittston Area, 6-1, in WVC Division 1.

Western Wayne defeated Hanover Area, 4-1, and Wilkes-Barre Area shut out Tunkhannock, 2-0, in other non-league games.
