Dunmore opens division with win

Thomas Bowen hit Domenic DeSando with two touchdown passes and ran for one score Friday night while the Dunmore defense was keeping an opponent off the scoreboard for the second straight game to defeat host Riverside, 34-0, in the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 opener for both teams.

Dunmore returned from a week off for COVID-19 precautions to post its second straight victory and even its overall record at 2-2. The Bucks gave up just a safety in a 21-2 win over Lake-Lehman.

The Bowen-to-DeSando passing combination produced 95 yards, including touchdowns of 39 yards early in the second quarter and 38 yards late in the third.

Nico Ruggiero ran for more than 100 yards for the second straight game, picking up 120 with the help of a 55-yard run for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Dunmore led 2-0 early on a safety when a Riverside snap went out of the end zone.

The Vikings have yielded three first-quarter safeties in the last two games. They have lost three straight since opening the season with a one-point win over Susquehanna and a forfeit victory over Montrose.

Dunmore led 8-0 at halftime after the first Bowen-to-DeSando touchdown to begin the second quarter.

Bowen made it to the pylon at the right corner for a 15-yard touchdown with 4:20 left in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 15-0.

The Bucks carried a 21-0 lead into the fourth quarter following the second DeSando touchdown catch.

Dunmore went strictly with the running game to finish out the victory.

Dehvin Low went up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown with 43 seconds left to complete the scoring.
