District 2 girls volleyball playoffs get underway with two Small School quarterfinal matches and girls soccer has its last full day of the regular season Thursday.
The fifth seed is at the fourth seed in five-team brackets in both Class 2A and A girls volleyball.
Forest City (4-11) is at Lake-Lehman (9-8) in Class 2A where two teams, Montrose and Elk Lake, declined participation in the open event after combining to go 3-27.
MMI Prep (3-15) is at Susquehanna (6-11) in Class A where District 2 has only five members schools, all of which spend the bulk of their season playing against larger schools.
The only other girls volleyball match is in the Wyoming Valley Conference where two teams that missed significant parts of the season play a make-up match. Dallas (8-4 in the WVC, 9-4 overall) is at Hazleton Area (5-4).
All three Lackawanna League girls soccer titles could be decided.
Lakeland (13-1, 15-1) has already clinched at least a tie for first place in Division 2 and can take the title outright with a win or a tie at home against Mountain View (8-5, 9-7).
Montrose (12-2) would need a win at Western Wayne (9-4, 9-5-1) and a Lakeland loss to tie for first place.
Delaware Valley (11-2, 14-2-1) needs a win at Honesdale (4-7-1, 5-9-2) to claim Division 1. Otherwise, it opens the door for Abington Heights (10-1-2, 11-1-2), which plays at Scranton (0-13).
Forest City (5-7-1, 5-8-1) has already clinched at least a first-place tie and can take the Division 3 championship with a win or tie at Elk Lake (2-9-2, 3-12-2).
Three teams are still in contention for the WVC Division 2 title in field hockey where third-place Abington Heights (7-2-1, 8-6-2) plays at second-place Pittston Area (8-2, 9-7).
In a WVC Division 1 finale, Hazleton Area (5-5, 11-6) is at Wyoming Area (9-1, 15-1).
There is also a light schedule in boys soccer.
