Tomasetti powers Wildcats to win

Nick Tomasetti powered his way to 192 yards and 3 touchdowns on 28 carries Friday night as Western Wayne defeated host West Scranton, 34-13, in a non-league game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.

Tomasetti had plenty of help. The Wildcats had other contributors in the ground game while getting a strong all-around effort from Jaiden Derosa and an efficient night from the passing combination of Frankie Leyshon to Thomas Chernasky.

Western Wayne (4-4) pulled away after winless West Scranton closed to within 20-13 early in the second half.

Freshman Josh Vinton carried 11 times for 60 yards as Western Wayne controlled the clock by churning out 322 rushing yards on 55 carries.

Derosa added 56 yards on 6 carries, recovered a fumble, shared the team lead by being in on 5 tackles, returned a kickoff 61 yards and returned a punt 29 yards.

Leyshon, who also ran for a touchdown and intercepted a pass on defense, was 5-for-9 for 78 yards passing with a touchdown to Chernasky.

Chernasky had 3 catches for 65 yards.

West Scranton opened the game with the passing of Dan Van Dusky and needed just three plays to take a 6-0 lead on a 22-yard pass from Van Dusky to Hunter Baumgardner.

The score gave the Invaders their first lead and their first points in the first half of any game this season.
