The holiday basketball tournament season gets underway Sunday but with one less event than originally scheduled.
The only action remaining on the Sunday schedule is in the Taylor Lions girls tournament where three of the four teams entered are ranked in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 basketball teams.
Small School No. 6 Lackawanna Trail (3-1) takes on Big School No. 4 Abington Heights (4-2) in the 6 p.m. opener at Riverside.
The host Lady Vikes (4-1) play West Scranton (1-6) at 7:30 p.m. Riverside is the top-ranked Small School girls team in the rankings, which are compiled by our partner website, NEPABasketball.com.
The Peter Turonis NBT Bank Classic boys tournament at Carbondale was originally called off when Carbondale shut down its sports until after the holidays.
The tournament was consolidated with the Lou Camoni Memorial girls tournament at Valley View and each turned into three-team, two-day events, Monday and Wednesday, at Valley View.
